Suitability & About
The Farrington Libero is a trusted dressage saddle that has been a favourite among New Zealand riders for over 15 years. Originally designed by Farrington Saddles of Walsall and now manufactured by I D Saddles Ltd, this model continues the tradition of handcrafted English saddlery excellence.
This dressage saddle is specifically designed for broader horses with flat backs or low withers. The Libero's wide spinal clearance, shorter panel length, and generous wool flocking make it particularly well-suited to horses with mutton withers (low, flat withers) and flat back conformation. It's also an excellent choice for horses with croup high or downhill conformation where the hindquarters are higher than the withers.
Key Benefits for Horse & Rider:
Wide Channel Design: Provides excellent spinal clearance for broader horses
Shorter Panel Length: Perfect for shorter-backed horses and prevents pressure on the loins
Generous Wool Flocking: Offers stability without pressure points and allows for adjustments as the horse changes shape
Secure Dressage Position: Upright cantle and longer flap encourage a classical dressage seat
Medium Twist: Balances support with comfort for long schooling sessions
Adjustable Knee Blocks: Allow for personalised leg positioning
Multiple Girthing Options: Enhance stability and fit customisation
Important Note: Saddle fitting is crucial. While a saddle model may be designed for a specific horse type, it's always recommended to have a professional saddle fitter assess both the horse and rider to ensure the best possible fit.
5 | Brand New: Pristine condition, often with tags still attached. Showroom quality with zero wear.
4 | Very good: Lightly used with minimal signs of wear (like faint stirrup leather marks). The leather is supple, the tree is sound, and it has been exceptionally well cared for.
3 | Good: Showing standard, normal signs of regular use. May have cosmetic scuffs, moderate stirrup leather wear, or slight discoloration, but it is entirely structurally sound and ready to ride.
2 | Fair: Well-loved with noticeable wear. May have deeper scratches, heavier leather fading, or minor cosmetic blemishes, but the tree and safety components are completely intact. A great budget-friendly, functional option.
1 | As-Is / TLC Needed: Heavy wear or significant cosmetic damage. May need minor repairs (like flocking, a new billet, or stitching) before hitting the trails. Still functional, but priced accordingly.
