About
The Harry Dabbs Avant Jump is a premium English jumping saddle designed for riders seeking a balanced, secure position with enhanced feel and close contact with their horse. Handcrafted in England using high-quality full grain leather, this saddle combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative design features.
Saddle Type & Design
The Avant Jump features a single monoflap design that reduces material between the rider's leg and the horse, providing enhanced feel and closer contact during jumping. This design allows riders to maintain a more direct connection with their horse while maintaining security and stability over fences. The DJ tree is specifically engineered to accommodate horses with higher, more defined withers and narrower frames.
Horse Suitability
Horses with High Withers: The DJ tree features a dropped pommel design that provides superior clearance over the withers, preventing pinching and pressure on horses with tall, sharply defined withers (sometimes called "shark fin" or "camel" withers). This design is ideal for Thoroughbreds and other horses with pronounced wither definition.
Narrower-Framed Horses: While the Wide tree width provides accommodation, the DJ design is engineered for horses with more refined, narrower body shapes that still require adequate width distribution.
Roofy/A-Framed Back Profiles: The DJ tree works well with horses that have a roofy or tent-shaped back profile where the spine is the highest point, sloping sharply down to the ribs. This is common in athletic jumping horses.
Horses with Hollow Withers: The DJ design accommodates horses with depressions in the trapezius muscle area (hollow withers), providing specialized support without pressure.
Key Benefits
Superior Wither Clearance: The Drop Jaw design ensures excellent clearance over high withers, preventing interference with the horse's movement and comfort.
Balanced Seat Position: Engineered to place the rider in the optimum jumping position for both comfort and effectiveness over fences.
Performance Panel: Designed to free up the horse's shoulder and back, reducing interference with movement and allowing for optimal athletic performance.
Quality Construction: Handcrafted English leather saddle built to last, with wool-flocked panels for comfort and durability.
Versatile Fit: The 17.5" seat size accommodates a wide range of adult riders, making this a practical choice for many jumping enthusiasts.
Professional Appearance: The sleek, elegant design is suitable for both competition and everyday riding.
Important Note: Saddle fitting is crucial. While the Harry Dabbs Avant Jump with DJ tree is specifically designed for horses with high withers and narrower frames, it's always recommended to have a professional saddle fitter assess both the horse and rider to ensure the best possible fit. Every horse is unique, and individual conformation variations should be considered before purchase.
5 | Brand New: Pristine condition, often with tags still attached. Showroom quality with zero wear.
4 | Very good: Lightly used with minimal signs of wear (like faint stirrup leather marks). The leather is supple, the tree is sound, and it has been exceptionally well cared for.
3 | Good: Showing standard, normal signs of regular use. May have cosmetic scuffs, moderate stirrup leather wear, or slight discoloration, but it is entirely structurally sound and ready to ride.
2 | Fair: Well-loved with noticeable wear. May have deeper scratches, heavier leather fading, or minor cosmetic blemishes, but the tree and safety components are completely intact. A great budget-friendly, functional option.
1 | As-Is / TLC Needed: Heavy wear or significant cosmetic damage. May need minor repairs (like flocking, a new billet, or stitching) before hitting the trails. Still functional, but priced accordingly.
