Key Features and Design Elements:

Female-Friendly Design: The Amazone is specifically designed to suit the female pelvis, often featuring a narrower twist and a comfortable, soft, and often open seat to accommodate the rider's anatomy.

StrideFree Tree: It's built on Peter Horobin's StrideFree® tree, which is designed to allow complete freedom of the horse's shoulder movement. This tree often has an open front to further facilitate shoulder rotation.

Adjustable Gullet: A key feature of Peter Horobin saddles, including the Amazone, is a fully adjustable gullet. This adjustability allows a saddle fitter to customize the fit to a wide range of horses, from narrow to extra-wide, and to make adjustments as the horse's shape changes. This adjustment can be done by a saddler or via Peter Horobin's remote fitting service.

Wide Channel: The saddle typically has a generous and wide channel to ensure proper spinal clearance for the horse, preventing pressure points along the spine.

Flock-Filled Panels: The panels are wool flocked, which is a traditional and highly adjustable method of fitting the saddle to the horse's back. Wool can be easily repacked and adjusted by a saddle fitter to achieve optimal contact and weight distribution. The panels on the Amazone are sometimes described as compact.

Adjustable Knee Rolls: The Amazone usually features adjustable Velcro knee rolls, allowing riders to customize the level and position of support for their leg.

Y-Girthing System: This girthing system helps to distribute pressure evenly and provides a secure fit.

Soft Leather: Peter Horobin saddles are known for using high-quality, often soft and grippy leather for rider comfort and security.

What Shape of Horse Does the Peter Horobin Amazone Best Suit?

Wider Horses: X-bred types and those with a broader back.

Horses with Big Shoulders: The open front design of the StrideFree® tree is intended to accommodate and allow free movement of horses with larger shoulders.

Horses with a Broad Back: The saddle features a broader seat and wider channel, which can be comfortable for horses with a wider back conformation.

Horses with Higher Withers: The high and cutback pommel design can make it suitable for horses with more prominent withers, ensuring clearance.

However, as with any saddle, the best way to determine if the Peter Horobin Amazone is suitable for a specific horse is through a professional saddle fitting. A qualified fitter can assess the horse's individual conformation and adjust the saddle's tree and flocking accordingly. The adjustability of the Peter Horobin saddles makes them a potentially good option for a wide variety of horses when properly fitted.
