About the Peter Horobin Royal 2
The Peter Horobin Royal 2 is a premium dressage and show saddle designed for riders seeking a close contact, refined seat. This skirtless design eliminates ridges under the inner thigh and features shorter flaps that allow greater contact with the lower leg—ideal for precise dressage work and show ring turnout.
Suitability
The Royal 2 is best suited for horses with medium withers and curved backs. The wide channel provides excellent spinal clearance, making it comfortable for horses with well-defined withers that blend smoothly into a muscled back. This saddle is particularly well-suited to horses with average to good conformation, where the back has moderate curve and muscle coverage over the spine.
Key Benefits
Close Contact Design: Skirtless construction allows riders to feel closer to their horse for improved communication and control
Wide Channel: Provides sufficient spinal clearance and comfort for the horse's back
Wool Flocked Panels: Premium wool flocking offers excellent weight distribution and comfort
Fully Adjustable Gullet: Allows customization to fit different horses as they develop and change
European Leather: Made from the finest European leathers for durability and comfort
Extra Soft Seat: Provides comfort for the rider during extended riding sessions
Proven Design: A design that has remained popular for over 30 years, trusted by riders worldwide
Important Note: Saddle fitting is crucial. While the Royal 2 is designed for specific horse types, it's always recommended to have a professional saddle fitter assess both the horse and rider to ensure the best possible fit.
5 | Brand New: Pristine condition, often with tags still attached. Showroom quality with zero wear.
4 | Very good: Lightly used with minimal signs of wear (like faint stirrup leather marks). The leather is supple, the tree is sound, and it has been exceptionally well cared for.
3 | Good: Showing standard, normal signs of regular use. May have cosmetic scuffs, moderate stirrup leather wear, or slight discoloration, but it is entirely structurally sound and ready to ride.
2 | Fair: Well-loved with noticeable wear. May have deeper scratches, heavier leather fading, or minor cosmetic blemishes, but the tree and safety components are completely intact. A great budget-friendly, functional option.
1 | As-Is / TLC Needed: Heavy wear or significant cosmetic damage. May need minor repairs (like flocking, a new billet, or stitching) before hitting the trails. Still functional, but priced accordingly.
